As December rolls around and the holiday season kicks into high gear, we’re not just expecting snow and eggnog. Oh no, folks. We’re also getting a slew of comedy films that are guaranteed to make you laugh so hard, you might forget what day it is. From middle-aged dads trying to flex muscles they no longer have to retirees plotting the most ridiculous heists of all time, December’s comedy offerings are here to make you wonder, “Did I just see that?” Here’s a sneak peek at what’s hitting the big screen this month.
1. Dad Bod Squad – The Dad Dream Team We Never Knew We Needed
Starring: Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Chris Rock, David Spade, Rob Schneider
Synopsis: A group of dads forms a fitness squad to reclaim their youthful glory days, only to find their bodies have become the punchline. Gym mishaps, awkward public workouts, and an ongoing struggle with modern fitness trends ensue.
“I thought I could bench press a toaster oven, but turns out I can’t even lift a bag of groceries,” says Kevin James, on the set of what’s sure to be his most relatable film. “My character, Jerry, thinks he’s in peak condition, but he’s more like a peak potato.”
In a world where dad jokes are aplenty, this film is the dad joke of films. Think of it as Rocky but with more snacks and less sweat. There’s a scene where Rob Schneider tries to do yoga but ends up stuck in the ‘downward spiral’ position. Comedy gold, if you ask us.
2. Retirement Home Rumble – Not Your Average Bingo Night
Starring: Morgan Freeman, Jack Nicholson, Steve Carell, Tina Fey
Synopsis: A group of retirees battles to save their beloved retirement home from being turned into a luxury condo. They engage in covert espionage, ridiculous heists, and mostly, they just steal things. Like… everything.
“We were going for Ocean’s Eleven meets The Golden Girls,” says Tina Fey, the mastermind behind this elder-heist adventure. “Only instead of diamonds, we’re stealing pudding cups and oxygen tanks. And yes, Morgan Freeman is, as always, the voice of reason. Except when it comes to, you know, shoplifting.”
Carell plays the grumpy resident who’s secretly great at hacking ATM machines, while Nicholson is that guy who forgets what he’s supposed to be doing, but somehow saves the day by tripping over a broomstick. It’s a slow, hilarious descent into chaos.
3. The Foul-Mouthed Fairy Godmother – Fairy Dust, Meet Real Life
Starring: Melissa McCarthy, Rebel Wilson, Kevin James
Synopsis: When a no-nonsense fairy godmother (McCarthy) is assigned to help a shy young woman (Wilson) land her dream job, things quickly spiral into absolute mayhem.
“My character’s a fairy godmother, but honestly, she’s more of a fairy ‘tell-it-like-it-is-er,’” explains McCarthy. “Who needs magic when you can just call people out for their bad fashion choices?”
The film’s central conflict occurs when Rebel Wilson’s character, a nervous job-seeker, finds herself accidentally turned into a cat (don’t ask). Kevin James adds his signature big guy, awkward charm to the mix, constantly misunderstanding magic for modern technology. “This is going to get worse before it gets better,” he says. “But that’s what makes it funny. I think.”
4. Office Olympics: The Return – The Desk Jockey Games You Didn’t Know You Needed
Starring: Steve Carell, Paul Rudd, Rainn Wilson, James Spader
Synopsis: The corporate world meets its absurd limit as employees compete in bizarre challenges like “Coffee Machine Race” and “Chair Roller Derby.” It’s a competition for a trophy that literally no one cares about—except the people competing for it.
“The office politics here are… something,” says Steve Carell. “But honestly, I think the real competition is just getting through the day without a passive-aggressive email from HR.”
If you loved The Office but always wondered what would happen if the workers had been high on caffeine and low on common sense, this is your answer. The competition’s got it all: stolen staplers, printer malfunction disasters, and Paul Rudd’s epic attempt to become the office’s best “email ninja” (spoiler: he fails).
5. The Undercover Uncles – Spy Games, But With Less Spy, More Uncle Shenanigans
Starring: Will Ferrell, John C. Reilly, Kevin Hart, Zach Galifianakis
Synopsis: Two bumbling uncles are enlisted in an elite spy operation. They’re terrible at it, but they’re really good at causing havoc—accidentally, of course.
“We’re basically just two middle-aged men who should never have been given the responsibility of saving the world,” says Ferrell. “But it turns out when you have zero qualifications, that’s when the fun begins.”
Think Mission: Impossible—except it’s impossible to take these guys seriously. When Reilly’s character tries to blend in at a fancy gala, he ends up mistakenly eating someone’s pet parrot. Meanwhile, Ferrell is too busy trying to impress everyone with his “spy” skills, which mostly consist of getting his phone stuck in a potted plant. It’s a mess, and we love it.
So, there you have it, folks: your must-see (and probably very confusing) comedy lineup for December. Grab your popcorn, buckle up, and prepare for a month of laughter, physical mishaps, and questionable life choices. These films might not save the world, but they’ll definitely make you forget it.
