In a shocking turn of events, Senator Thom Tillis has come out swinging against former President Donald Trump’s “big, beautiful bill” just hours after announcing his surprise retirement from politics. The North Carolina senator, who has been a staunch supporter of Trump in the past, seems to have had a change of heart.
In a press conference held outside of his favorite barbecue joint, Tillis declared, “I can no longer stand by and support a bill that is big and beautiful but lacks substance. We need real solutions, not just empty promises and oversized fonts.”
The bill in question, which Trump had touted as the “greatest piece of legislation ever written,” was meant to address a variety of issues facing the country, from infrastructure to immigration. However, Tillis seems to have taken issue with the lack of specifics in the bill, calling it a “glorified coloring book” that would do little to actually solve any problems.
When pressed for further comment, Tillis added, “I may be retiring from politics, but I still have a duty to speak out against nonsense like this. We need real leaders who are willing to roll up their sleeves and get to work, not just slap their name on a bill and call it a day.”
Of course, Trump was quick to respond to Tillis’ criticism, tweeting, “Sad to see Thom Tillis turn on me like this. I always knew he was a low-energy loser. SAD!” However, Tillis was unfazed by the former president’s remarks, stating, “I’d rather be a loser than a sellout any day.”
As Tillis prepares to ride off into the sunset of retirement, it seems he is not going quietly. Whether his newfound outspokenness will have any lasting impact remains to be seen, but one thing is for sure – the political world just got a little bit more interesting.
