In a shocking turn of events, Iowa’s civil rights protections have taken a step backwards as gender identity is no longer included in the state’s anti-discrimination laws. This decision has left many scratching their heads and wondering what century we’re living in.
Governor Kim Reynolds defended the move, stating, “We need to focus on the real issues facing our state, like corn prices and cow tipping. Gender identity can wait.” When asked for further comment, Reynolds simply replied, “Iowa nice, y’all.”
However, not everyone is taking this news lying down. Activists across the state are rallying together to fight for the inclusion of gender identity in Iowa’s civil rights protections. One activist, Jane Doe, stated, “This is a huge step backwards for our state. We can’t let Iowa become known as the state that doesn’t care about all of its residents, regardless of gender identity.”
On the other hand, some residents seem to be embracing the change. Bob Smith, a self-proclaimed “traditionalist,” said, “I never understood all this gender identity stuff anyway. Back in my day, you were either a man or a woman, none of this in-between nonsense.” When asked for his thoughts on the matter, Smith’s wife chimed in, “Bob’s just upset because he can’t fit into his old high school football jersey anymore.”
As the debate rages on, one thing is clear: Iowa’s reputation is on the line. Will the state continue to move backwards in terms of civil rights, or will it take a stand and show the world that it truly cares about all of its residents? Only time will tell. But in the meantime, let’s hope that Governor Reynolds can find her way out of the cornfield and into the 21st century.
