In a recent press conference, Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell doubled down on his warning about the negative impact of tariffs on the economy, but some GOP senators are crying foul, accusing him of bias.
Senator Mitch McTurtle, a staunch supporter of President Donald Trump’s trade policies, lashed out at Powell, saying, “It’s clear that Powell is just a puppet of the deep state trying to undermine our great leader’s efforts to make America great again. Sad!”
But Powell didn’t back down, responding with a wink and a nod, “I’m just here to do my job and keep the economy running smoothly. If that means calling out the detrimental effects of tariffs, then so be it.”
Senator Chuckles McLaugherson, known for his comedic antics on Capitol Hill, chimed in with a joke, “I guess Powell is just trying to avoid a ‘Powell-pocalypse’ by warning us about tariffs. But seriously, folks, we need to take his warnings seriously.”
In response to the accusations of bias, Powell quipped, “I’m just a humble economist trying to do my job. If that means ruffling a few feathers, so be it. But hey, if anyone wants to accuse me of bias, just remember that I’m biased towards a strong and stable economy.”
Despite the back-and-forth between Powell and GOP senators, the stock market remained relatively stable, with investors seemingly unfazed by the drama unfolding in Washington.
In a statement released by the White House, President Trump expressed his support for Powell, saying, “I believe Chairman Powell is doing a tremendous job. He’s a fantastic guy, really fantastic. Believe me, folks.”
As the tariff debate rages on, one thing is clear – the only winners in this situation are the comedians on Capitol Hill, who are having a field day with the absurdity of it all. So buckle up, folks, because the tariff rollercoaster is just getting started!
