In a move that has left many scratching their heads and others rolling on the floor laughing, the Colorado Capitol has finally replaced the ‘distorted’ portrait of former President Donald Trump that has been causing controversy for months.
The portrait, which was unveiled last year to much fanfare, depicted a rather unflattering version of Trump with exaggerated features and a comically oversized head. Critics argued that the painting was disrespectful and did not accurately capture the essence of the former president.
But now, after months of backlash and public outcry, the Colorado Capitol has decided to take down the offending portrait and replace it with a more traditional representation of Trump. In a statement released earlier today, Governor Jared Polis explained the decision, saying, “We felt that it was time to put an end to the mockery and replace the portrait with one that more accurately represents President Trump.”
However, not everyone is happy with the decision. Local artist and Trump supporter, Bob Bobson, expressed his disappointment, saying, “I can’t believe they caved to the PC police. That portrait was a masterpiece, capturing the true essence of our beloved president. I demand they put it back up immediately!”
In response to Bobson’s comments, Governor Polis simply shrugged and replied, “Sorry Bob, but sometimes art is just too avant-garde for its own good. We have to think of the children, you know.”
As for the artist behind the original portrait, rumors are swirling that he is planning to create a new masterpiece featuring a more flattering portrayal of Trump. When reached for comment, he simply said, “I’m just happy to have caused such a stir. Maybe next time I’ll go for a more abstract approach and really blow some minds.”
In the end, the controversy surrounding the Trump portrait may have finally come to an end, but the laughs and eye-rolls it inspired will surely live on in infamy. And who knows, maybe one day it will be worth a pretty penny as a collector’s item. One can only dream.
