Cleveland, Detroit Roast Sophie Cunningham’s WNBA Expansion Hot Take

In a recent interview, WNBA player Sophie Cunningham made some bold statements about potential expansion teams, suggesting that cities like Cleveland and Detroit should not be considered for new franchises. Well, the cities of Cleveland and Detroit have responded, and let’s just say they are not taking Cunningham’s comments lying down.

In a press conference held outside the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Mayor Frank Underwood expressed his city’s outrage at Cunningham’s remarks. “Who does this Sophie Cunningham think she is, dissing our city like that? Cleveland is a vibrant and thriving community, and we would welcome a WNBA team with open arms. And let’s be real, we have a pretty rockin’ basketball tradition here with the Cavaliers,” Mayor Underwood declared.

Not to be outdone, Detroit Mayor Barry Blueberry held a press conference outside the Motown Museum to address Cunningham’s comments. “Sophie Cunningham may not think Detroit is worthy of a WNBA team, but let me tell you something, we are Motor City proud and we would love to have a team here. Plus, we have some of the best coney dogs in the country, so there’s that,” Mayor Blueberry quipped.

Local residents in both cities also weighed in on the controversy. Cleveland native Sally Slam Dunk had this to say, “I can’t believe Sophie Cunningham would disrespect our city like that. Cleveland rocks, and we would love to support a women’s basketball team here.” Meanwhile, Detroit resident Tommy Triple Threat added, “Detroit is a tough city with a lot of heart. We would show up in droves to support a WNBA team, no doubt about it.”

In response to the backlash, Sophie Cunningham issued a statement clarifying her comments. “I apologize if my remarks were taken out of context. I have nothing but respect for the cities of Cleveland and Detroit, and I’m sure they would make great hosts for WNBA teams. Plus, I hear they have really good food,” Cunningham stated.

So there you have it, folks. Cleveland and Detroit are ready and willing to prove Sophie Cunningham wrong and show the world that they are more than deserving of a WNBA team. Let the games begin!
