In the ever-evolving world of US foreign policy in the Middle East, two presidents have left their mark in very different ways. Bush’s War on Terror and Trump’s Iran approach couldn’t be more different, but both have certainly had their fair share of controversy and comedy.
Let’s start with Bush, the cowboy president who famously declared, “You’re either with us or against us” in the wake of 9/11. His War on Terror was like a bad action movie, full of explosions and dramatic speeches, but lacking in substance. One fake source, General John McBombastic, said of Bush’s approach, “We were dropping bombs left and right, but we had no idea who or what we were actually hitting. It was like a game of pin the tail on the terrorist.”
On the other hand, we have Trump, the reality TV star turned president, whose Iran approach can only be described as chaotic. One fake source, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson-You-Up, said of Trump’s strategy, “It’s like he’s playing a game of nuclear chicken with Iran, but he keeps forgetting to put on his seatbelt.” Trump’s tweets about Iran have been nothing short of entertaining, with gems like, “Iran better watch out, or I’ll unleash my secret weapon: covfefe!”
But despite the differences in approach, both Bush and Trump have one thing in common: a tendency to make the Middle East even more of a mess than it already was. One fake expert, Dr. Bombadil McBoom, summed it up perfectly, saying, “It’s like watching a comedy of errors, except instead of laughs, we get bombs and diplomatic crises.”
So, as we continue to watch the US navigate its way through the Middle East, one thing is for sure: there will be plenty of material for satirical news sites like ours to work with. And who knows, maybe one day we’ll look back on Bush’s War on Terror and Trump’s Iran approach and laugh… or maybe we’ll just cry.
