In a shocking turn of events, Wings rookie Paige Bueckers has come out in defense of fellow rookie Caitlin Clark amid her recent shooting struggles, calling the expectations placed on her “inhumane.”
In a recent interview, Bueckers was quoted as saying, “It’s ridiculous to expect Caitlin to be lights out every game. She’s human, not a robot. The pressure being put on her is just plain cruel.”
The media frenzy surrounding Clark’s shooting woes has reached new heights, with fans and analysts alike questioning whether she has what it takes to succeed in the WNBA. However, Bueckers is not having any of it.
“It’s like people forget she’s a rookie,” Bueckers continued. “She’s still adjusting to the speed and physicality of the game. Give the girl a break!”
When asked about her own experience as a rookie in the league, Bueckers had this to say: “I was lucky to have a supportive team and coaching staff that allowed me to grow and develop at my own pace. Caitlin deserves the same.”
In response to Bueckers’ comments, Clark herself chimed in, saying, “Paige is right. The expectations on me are out of this world. It’s like they expect me to shoot 100% every game or something. It’s just not realistic.”
Despite the criticism, Clark remains optimistic about her future in the league. “I know I have what it takes to succeed in this league. I just need some time to adjust and find my rhythm. And maybe a little less pressure from the peanut gallery wouldn’t hurt.”
In the meantime, Bueckers and Clark are focused on supporting each other and leading their team to victory. As for the critics, well, maybe they should take a page out of Bueckers’ book and cut Clark some slack. After all, even the best players have off nights.
