Sky Rookie Drafted Because She’s Popular, Ex-WNBA Star Shocked

In a shocking turn of events, ex-WNBA star and self-proclaimed basketball guru, Bertha “Big Shot” Johnson, has come out swinging against rookie sensation Hailey Van Lith of the Chicago Sky. Johnson, who retired from the WNBA in 2015 after a storied career, believes that Van Lith’s popularity played a significant role in her draft selection.

In a recent interview with Satire Sports, Johnson didn’t hold back in her criticism of the young rookie. “I mean, come on, Hailey Van Lith? More like Hailey Van Overrated,” Johnson quipped. “I can’t believe the Sky wasted a draft pick on her just because she’s got a big social media following. Back in my day, you had to earn your spot on the team with hard work and talent, not Instagram followers.”

When asked about Van Lith’s impressive college career at Louisville, Johnson brushed it off with a laugh. “College schmollege, who cares about that? I once dropped 50 points in a single game against the Detroit Shock, and I didn’t even have Twitter back then. These young players today just don’t have the same work ethic we had in the old days.”

Johnson also took a jab at Van Lith’s flashy playing style, calling it “all show and no substance.” “She’s out there doing behind-the-back passes and fancy dribble moves, but where’s the fundamentals? Give me a good old-fashioned pick-and-roll any day over that nonsense.”

Despite Johnson’s harsh words, Van Lith has remained unfazed, telling Satire Sports in a statement, “I respect Bertha Johnson’s opinion, but at the end of the day, I’m just here to play basketball and help my team win games. Popularity may have gotten me noticed, but hard work and dedication will keep me in the league for years to come.”

Only time will tell if Van Lith can prove her critics wrong and make a name for herself in the WNBA. But one thing’s for sure, Bertha “Big Shot” Johnson won’t be holding back her opinions anytime soon.
