MLB Players Discover Extreme Heat Causes More Than Just Sweaty Uniforms

In a shocking turn of events, Reds’ outfielder Elly “The Heatwave” De La Cruz and Mariners reliever Trent “The Scorcher” Thornton have both fallen ill while playing in extreme heat during a recent game. The two players were battling it out on the field in temperatures that rivaled the surface of the sun when disaster struck.

Witnesses say that De La Cruz was seen staggering around the outfield, clutching his chest and muttering something about needing sunscreen. Thornton, on the other hand, was spotted in the bullpen frantically guzzling water and fanning himself with his glove. It was a scene straight out of a heat-induced nightmare.

“I’ve never seen anything like it,” said one fan in the stands. “It was like they were melting right before our eyes. I swear I saw steam coming off of them.”

When asked for a comment, De La Cruz was quoted as saying, “I thought I could handle the heat, but it turns out I’m more of a lukewarm kind of guy. This is definitely not what I signed up for when I joined the Reds.”

Thornton, on the other hand, had this to say about the ordeal: “I feel like I just stepped off the surface of the sun. I’ve never been so hot in my life. I think I might actually be sweating my uniform off.”

The league has since issued a statement advising players to stay hydrated and take frequent breaks during games played in extreme temperatures. They have also promised to install giant misting fans in the dugouts to help keep players cool.

In the meantime, De La Cruz and Thornton are both expected to make a full recovery and return to the field in no time. Let’s just hope they remember to pack their sunscreen and stay hydrated next time they find themselves playing in the scorching heat. Stay cool, gentlemen.
